Hi guys! After having analyzed a little more in detail the program that controls the machine, it’s time to think about reinforcing a little bit the whole CNC structure.
Until now, the machine looked like this:
but when it works it has some stability problems and vibrates a lot along the Y-axis. So I had to study a way to make it more stable and increase its performance; remaking it in metal would be the best thing, but for the moment I prefer to improve what I already have… there’s always time to make a new one! 😋.
Side supports
After observing the parts that seemed to be weaker, I noticed that the side supports had to be reinforced because they vibrated a lot during the carving phase.
So I thought to add two wooden reinforcements on the back of the CNC and fix them to the two side supports to limit the movements due to vibrations.
Bars
I also saw that the 8mm round steel bars forming the X-axis and Y-axis flexed a lot when the machine was running…
then I replaced them with aluminium square profiles that are much stronger.
Conclusions
At this point, the machine looks like this:
These integrations have made it possible to make the CNC more stable and therefore the machining operations are more precise.
Although there are still some improvements to be made, I must say that I am very satisfied with the progress I have made by adding these reinforcements to the structure.
Now that the CNC has been reinforced I can concentrate on my first real project… stay tuned!
